Preparing for Your Perfect Lawn:
A Step-by-Step Guide

A great lawn starts with great foundations, it's worth spending the time preparing the area for your new lawn with our simple step-by-step guide.

1. Before you start:

If your lawn is very old and full of weeds, use a reliable weed killer like Roundup; this will remove deep rooting and stubborn perennial weeds. Be patient; this process can take 2 to 3 weeks to work, depending on the weather conditions. The weedkiller works from the root upwards, and it may remain green initially.

2. Removing your existing lawn:

Once the affected area has withered away, it's time for some manual labour. For small patches, you can remove the dead grass with a spade. However, a turf cutter will be your best friend for larger areas.

3. Dig or Rotavate the area:

The next step is to dig or rotovate the desired area to a depth of about 20-25cm (8-10 inches). This helps in rejuvenating the soil and prepping it for the new turf.

4. Achieving the Perfect Level:

One cannot emphasise enough how crucial a level base is. Walk over the area in various directions to firm the soil. It should be firm but not overly compacted.

5. Root-Zone:

A root-zone sand/soil mixture can be a game-changer in your lawn preparation. It eliminates any minor soil undulations and sets an impeccable base for your turf. Repeatedly rake over this mix until you achieve the desired level.

6. Apply Pre-Fertiliser:

Once your site is prepped and primed, our molasses-based pre-fertiliser boosts moisture and nutrient retention. Great for all lawn scenarios, shaded areas will benefit greatly.

Conclusion:

Achieving the lawn of your dreams may seem challenging at first glance, but with the right steps, patience, and care, your efforts will pay dividends.

So, roll up those sleeves and let's get gardening!
