Winter Maintenance Tips

November to February

Winter is a quiet time, rest the lawn and keep off wherever possible especially if the ground is soft, wet or frosty.

Only mow if necessary and the ground conditions are favourable.

Clearing leaves is an important winter task. Left on the lawn the leaves will prevent the grass underneath from getting any sunlight and once removed in the spring sparse patches will be left which will leave favourable conditions for weed and disease to take hold.

Worm casts are good they improve the nutrient content of the soil along with being beneficial to the soil structure, the side effect of worms are the unsightly casts, leave the soil to dry and then remove using a stiff brush.

Now is a good time to service your mower making sure the blades sharp and ready for the spring.
