Mowing a newly Laid Lawn

  • Mowing  can take place once the lawn has established it’s roots,  this normally takes approximately 2 weeks in the growing season.
  • To check if the lawn has rooted lift a corner of turf and if the turf  shows risistence it is then fine to mow and walk upon.
  • For the first mow, choose a day when the grass is dry and set the mower on the highest setting ensuring that only the tips of the grass are all that is removed and no more than a third is removed at any given time. (this is essential as if the lawn is scalped it will be weakened which could result in a thin and sparse lawn)
  • Mow at regular intervals, leaving no longer than a week between mows, gradually reducing the cut height to the required length
  • Remember never to take more than one third of the total height off in any one mowing.   Very close mown turf is more vulnerable to moss and weeds.

With regular care and attention, this should ensure that your lawn will continue to look in good condition.
